Title: Neuropsychological interventions: the gap between research and clinical practice
Abstract: The last decades our knowledge on neuroplasticity has increased rapidly. Neuroplasticity is defined as the brain’s ability to modify, change, and adapt both in structure and function throughout life and in response to experience. Patients with brain damage due to a stroke or an accident (traumatic brain injury) are dependent on the brain’s capacity to change in reaction to damage, but is injury-induced change the same as experience-dependent change? And does the damaged brain react to experience in the same way as a healthy brain does? In this presentation the current knowledge on neuroplasticity in relation to brain damage will be presented from a clinical perspective. The emphasis will be on cognitive functioning and neuropsychological interventions for people who suffered from an acute onset form of brain damage.
